Forged in Adversity.

One thing life never prepares us for is how we react to the fires we survive.

Others (friends, family, people) are grateful we did not get burnt, but within, that may have set in motion a wildfire that they may not be able to help with cos they have no idea how much damage is happening to you.

Grief does this to you.

Trauma of different kinds too.

Consistent rejection, raised in place without love, loss, opportunity cost for decisions not taken, guilt etc.

There are many fires that eat us up as humans, and although, it forges strength and resilience on the outside, only God knows the damage that is happening on the inside, if you are not letting people in, or getting some kind of help.

It is complicated. Cos it sometimes starts with vulnerability, a chink in your armour, or even the unreadiness to burden other people. Dealing with this is a massive conundrum.

I shed a tear this morning. Scratch that, plenty tears seeing the last episode of Seal Team — a series that chronicles the everyday lives of some of the best hands of the war machine against terror.

Adversity builds you, but most times, at a cost, that we are less likely to admit. However, I will end with Warrant Officer Perry’s last statement on the show, “always improve your fighting position.”

More often than not, this starts with not fighting alone, especially when you have access to help.
