I am a Christian but I have questions…
I am a Christian.
It is a huge part of my identity and the guiding principle of my value system.
But sometimes I have questions. Why this? Why that? If I do not do this nko, what will happen? I even fall for the temptation of comparing experiences of people across the different religions and persuasions. But yeah, for a lot of us growing up, asking questions meant being rebellious or walking your way out of the faith. People just expected us to believe and know stuff. “You no suppose dey ask this question”, but I dey ask am my G!
Don’t you think it is better for us to ask questions than run on unbelief laced with a touch of shame and misunderstanding?
I may be wrong, but this is the same thing a lot of young people are facing across different religions. They are asking “Why”. Peradventure, you are a Christian reading this and there are a lot of questions you are dealing with, you are not alone, and we only find answers when we ask the right questions. Don’t shrink, stay with God, stay with the word, and hold unto the things you know and believe until you get answers to the ones that give you sleepless nights. You work from the known to the unknown.
I think this is something that can be experienced across different contexts as there are a lot of things we don’t know in life too.
But to take leaps you need to stand on steady grounds. Find something you can hold on to and then, shake whatever you need to shake with the right heart to learn and not just to get a medal for being difficult or the one with the “intelligent questions”.
Every answer we have today come from someone who asked the right questions sometimes in the past.
