Still excited about telling the stories of Africa’s most ambitious projects.

Over a decade ago, my love for all things art drove me to my first major rebellion.

Nine hours away from any form of possible punishment or explaining my choice to my parents (I was in a boarding house far out in Ondo State), I traveled to school, bought Art textbooks, and moved from Science to Art class even after having stellar results in SS1. SS2 I had my first piece published in a national newspaper — it was a letter to the editor on the unavailability of a lot of competition for Art Students. We just had essays here and there and Maltina spelling bee that did not even last for too long.

But that’s not the story for today.

But yeah, it has been an exciting journey across newspaper, radio, digital magazine, social media communications, copywriting, and now, brand strategy. At 300 level, I covered Esama’s birthday for the Nigerian Observer (I should really go look for my bylines sef). In my first year as a radio journalist, I was on the road covering the campaign trail of the sitting Governor of Ondo State and, eventually, covered one of the largest LGAs in the state for the 2016 gubernatorial polls live on election day.

If you have visited Ondo State in the last six years, you will see an identity system used by the government to showcase its activities in sentences like the talk and do governor. That communication stems from the brand direction for a development summit with international and local partners. I led the project for FourthCanvas, and it is exciting to see how it has evolved into other facets of government comms. My first interaction with public sector projects.

The DO which became one of the most exciting part of the system meant “Develop Ondo”

“Before then, I ran Zumalo.com and played a role in helping to beam the spotlight on the Akure tech ecosystem. In an integrated effort that included radio interviews on my shows, interviews on national newspapers, and consulting for many startups and events; working with founders to shape the narratives about the ecosystem remains a massive win for me.

One of my best trips ever! The energy from the ladies in Illorin during the exhibition was massive.
This was the event I met Victor for the first time and they stole me from radio afterward. I think my time of Nigeria-focused events are over — the theme here was achieving my dream Nigeria through Technology.

I always say that I am lucky to make my passion into a career and the goal remains my pinned tweet: to tell the stories of Africa’s most ambitious projects. I think I am on course with the work my team is doing at FourthCanvas. Sometime in the future, I want to coordinate an end-to-end brand experience for a global product — more like contributing from ideation to product development to customer experience to support comms so that the quality is consistent across all touchpoints for the brand.

A cross-section of Gs at my recent side baby: Sometime in X. Where X is = to the month it holds.

I gave myself a task to make sure I write an article a day through this week and do not even know why I am starting with this, but I like the feel, and it’s possibly something to refer to in the coming years.
